About Housing Authority of the City of High Point (HPHA)

The Housing Authority of the City of High Point (HPHA) was chartered as a non-profit corporation in January 1940 under General Statutes, Article 157 of the State of North Carolina to provide decent, safe and sanitary housing to the low-income citizens of High Point. Operating in accordance with regulations promulgated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and as provided for by the terms of the U.S. Housing Act of 1937, the Authority, a Public Housing Agency, is governed by a 7 member board of commissioners.

The agency administers 1,096 units funded under the Public Housing program, and 1,484 tenant based section 8 housing choice vouchers and 101 units through the Section 8 New Construction program. Additionally, the agency operates programs in the areas of housing counseling, Public Housing Capital Fund Program (CFP), Congregate Housing Supportive Services, Demolition and Revitalization of Severely Distressed Public Housing (HOPE VI Grants), an Affordable Housing Program, Upward Mobility Program and Resident and Supportive Services.

The agency also operates a non-profit organization titled Low Income Housing Opportunities, Inc. to provide housing and homeownership opportunities to residents of High Point, North Carolina.

Our Mission is to provide eligible families and individuals with adequate and affordable housing, economic advancement, and home ownership opportunities in a safe, drug-free, suitable, living environment without discrimination.
